January in Wesel

January 30, 2012

Hey guys!
Another week has gone by and it feels like eternity since I emailed you all.

So I was thinking, now is about the time in my mission where nothing new or exciting really happens or stands out. I guess that's what happens when you are out in the field for a while. So I got to thinking, if you guys could send me a few good questions every week, it would help with writing about things to talk about. And I see that you have already done that!

So the weather here has taken a turn for the worse. It finally snowed here. And the temperature is dropping to about -7 degrees celcius. So it's really cold now.

My talk went fairly well, I spoke for about 12 to 14 minutes on Christlike Attributes. The congregation paid fairly close attention and seemed to enjoy it. I had to tie everything into with holiness of heart, bringing the work to pass. It was pretty hard, but I did a good job. I will send a copy of it to you guys in an email or something.

I haven't heard anything about tranfers yet, but we get calls this Saturday. I am kinda excited to see whats going to happen. I am pretty sure I will stay in Wesel for another couple of transfers, but anything can happen. Once Elder Hall leaves Krefeld, I will be the king of the district. That means that I will have been in the district for the longest.

On a good note, one of the people I taught in Krefeld is getting baptized this upcoming week. I am really excited for that. He is a good guy, and I hope that I will be able to go and see it. Elder Mayle is excited for that, as well.

I haven't heard anything from Nürnberg, but that's ok. I am going to call them and see if Rebecca is getting baptized in a few weeks. That is exciting, too.

I think the thing that I was supposed to learn this transfer is patience. I gave a theme on it at the beginning of the transfer, but now I see why. I have been doing a lot better about being patient, as well.

I have definitely been learning a lot lately (not in the sense of books,) and I think it's been doing some good for me.

On another note, I am almost at my halfway mark! At the end of next transfer I will be going into transfer 9 of 16!

...yeah, I could use some questions so that I have something to talk about. Haha, living here feels like normality, yet, when I think about going home, It just seems weird.

Well, in short, I am doing good. Things here are moving along slowly but surely. Thanks for all the support and letters and packages!

Love you guys!

January 23, 2012 Busy Week in Wesel

Well hello everyone!

This week has been pretty cool. I don't have a lot of time before I leave for Krefeld today, so I will only be sending a massive email and no personal ones. Sorry.

So this week, I was posed the question (by my president) how do I want others, specifically missionaries, to see me? I thought about this question for a long time. I figured that for the first half of my mission basically, I really didn't care how others thought of me. Now, I realized I at least have to make a decent impression. But for the most part, I stay away from the side of judging that comes from the politics around here. I may have found the middle ground at last... Sorry if that doesn't make sense; it makes sense in my head.

Well, I met with the Ayala Vasquez family again. That was way cool. We talked for a while and I get to go visit them again today with Elder Mayle! I am so excited to see Krefeld again. It's really in good hands with Elder Hall. He loves the city. They got a new bishop too. Its Brother Spence. He is from England and is pretty cool too.

So we also had Zone Konferenz. It was more of a mini one. It was still good and I certainly learned a lot. Not about what they were talking about, but more about me. I learned that I shouldn't go too far into the gospel. I shouldn't go too deep. I need to stick with the basics because that is what I am teaching out here.

I also learned that last week, I was just way too stressed out. I am still looking for positive releases for stress. It's really hard considering I can't just go outside and run. I think that's the reason why I was so frustrated with my companion and with other things. I am so glad it doesn't last forever. I am so excited for when I get home.

Thanks so much for the packages I got over Christmas! I got packages from the Davis Family and the Vincents. It was way awesome. Just for future reference, I want all my mail, to go to the mission office. That way I don't miss anything and get anything left in a city.

I had interviews with President last week too. It was really nice, he said he likes my German accent. It was really funny. It may have been because I was chewing a piece of gum while I was in there, but I will let him think I have great German. =)

Well, I am now off to Krefeld. Half the Zone is going to be there which should be fun. Course, we just need to figure out what we are all going to do... Oh well.

Thanks for all the support, and I love hearing from you all in Emails!

Love you!

January 16, 2012 Wesel is so cool!

Well another week has gone by... I didn't get an email from Mom this week, but that's ok. I know she didn't forget! Haha.

Can you believe that I am already in the 4th week in the transfer? Time is going by so fast! And I know many of you guys think it's not going fast enough!

So because I live underneath a Gamestop, I decided to check out when Mass Effect 3 was coming out in Germany. It won't come out until the 9th of March. That's not too bad, only a year after I leave right? No biggie. Anyways, that's my trunky moment of the day.

So of course the new challeges with getting into a new area, is dealing with a new companion. Things can get rocky sometimes, as some of you may know, but it's nothing that anyone cant work out. Communication is key, and I feel like I would be lost without it. Sometimes communicating with my companion can be a little...frustrating, but I guess it's something I just need to work with and have patience.

Well, the area of Wesel is by far the coolest I have been to. It is however, the hardest to work in. I dont know whether it is the amount of people living in Wesel or just coincidence, it's hard, people really don't want to listen.

The ward however is so legit. It is really big for the area and really excited for missionary work. Lots of members have been introducing their friends to the church which is way awesome. We started doing what is called the First Mission Kit, which is basically a bunch of church material that the members can use for missionary work! We have also got a few ideas from a couple of the return missionaries in the ward about holding a mini MTC which the youth can come and learn what it's like to be a missonary.

We taught a pretty good lesson in church on charity yesterday, which went really well. It was good to see some of the members help out the missionaries who can barely speak the language. Oh and I get to give a talk on the 29th of this month. Had they made it for the following Sunday, that would have been after transfers, and there would have been a possibility of me getting out of it... but, I don't have that kind of luck. Haha.

Well, we have zone conference this week, but it's only a mini one. It's only the Düsseldorf zone and not the usual combined Düsseldorf and Dortmund. Oh and I found out that the missionary that Dad trained lived in Wesel for a while and rides motorcycles. He moved to Stuttgart but he is still well known around here. It's a small world, eh? Especially when you're Mormon.

Well, it's been a typical run of the mill week. Nothing much really happens that's new... This week should be good though. I get to do a split in Krefeld and visit some people! I'm so excited for that!

Well, I love you guys! Have fun this week!

January 9, 2012 Wesel is Awesome!

Well hello guys!

This week has been pretty good. I guess there were just a few funny things that happened this week.

So first off, we were at Dinslaken coming back from an appointment and this guy that the Elders met a while ago on a bus walks up and says hi. He was drunk. He then proceeded to buy us hot chocolate which was really good and awfully nice of him. So then he realized that he forgot his newspaper in the coffee shop. He ran back in, but before he did he made Elder Baum hold his cigarette. So Elder Baum was just standing there with the ciggarette, and I told him to face the wall. The guy came back with his newspaper and took his cigarette back and proceeded to finish it off. Then we had a nice discussion about how this guy doesnt like anyone not from Germany, namely Turks. And then he started on about how gays are awful and blacks are awful... well we were just like *sigh. It was sad, he was a really nice guy, the only problem was that he doesn't like anyone unlike himself.

Well, then we got a refferal from the Elders in Duisburg from the Elders Quorum president or something. Anyways, we called him and set up an appointment. The only problem is that it takes an hour by bus to get there and it's in the middle of nowhere. So we get ready for the all day trek and right before we leave, he cancels on us. I am so glad that we didn't get there and he say "No time". He said that he would call us though, who knows what's going to happen.

So the ward here is so awesome, we get such an awesome reception and the members here love us. We are working with them right now on getting whats called the "First Mission Kit" to all the members giving them goals and things to work towards with missionary work. They are so cool. Elder Peterson did a lot of member work and built up really good relationships. This is a really great area.

Well, I don't really have anything else for this week other than how I am enjoying Wesel.

Love you guys!
